Those actually do serve a legitimate purpose though. I see them used with M16 lowers and belt-fed uppers on a tripod. Suppose it's much harder for some child to accidentally shoot themselves in the head with a MG at an event when it's tripod mounted with that type of grip on it.

On a normal AR, yeah it's stupid. On a machine gun it can be useful.

Until recently, I never even tried a scope on an AR-15. I always shot 16" or 20" HBar with A2 uppers. No optics, no red dots or flat tops for me! Now that I have 2 cataracts, and my eyes are turning to shxt, I scoped 3 AR flat tops and have had fun getting back into the game!

When I see a tricked out or dressed up Barbie Doll AR-15, my disgust with the rifle increases with each new piece of crap that is hanging off of the thing! What's next?....Turn signals?

I think a vfg helps when you go spotlighting for pigs. Follow up shots are faster and the gun is pulled tighter to your shoulder. It makes it easier to follow them too.

Dumbest accessory - the fake birdcage FH that came on my Chiappa M4gery. Held on by a 2mm set-screw, none of the slots are cut all the way through.

Sarcastic good thing - it completes the M4 "look" on the range.
