It is very heart warming to find out how many chain stores actually offer a 10%-15% discount for active, retired or disabled veterans. The car dealership would be a huge deal. My advice is to just nicely ask when checking out or before making a purchase. a lot of stores do not advertise the military discounts.
I carry a copy of my DD214 in my wallet. The 10% discounts at Lowes and Home Depot alone make it worth it.

i just recently learned about the discount at Bass Pro........i REALLY wish i had known that when i spent all the money there last year for a hunting trip to colorado - lol
i got the discount before the 15th - and they also applied it to some boxes of ammo i bought - i doubt the cashiers know that the policy is the way it is - at least not the ones in grapevine
Myself as well. I think that's a good idea for all vets in general, not simply for discounts.
Show your DD-214 when renewing your driver's license and you can get "VETERAN" displayed on the front of the replacement, meaning no need to carry the DD-214 anymore.
