    It will cost more to build yourself, however, you may get a better faster machine.
    The high cost items are high end video cards. Main system memory should be 16g min today, that is what the last two laptops I bought have
    Second, you probably should get a pair/3/5 of 2T (or larger) drives with the fasted spin rate and size of buffer as large as you can find.
    Get a hardware based RAID controller, Raid 5 best read performance other wise use mirrored drives.
    On the processor, remember that I5 and I7 are families of processors, a low end I7 is slower than a high end I5.

    Use windows 10, it is faster and more stable. It also takes less overhead in terms of memory.
