entry level compact 1911

who makes a decent entry level compact 1911? looking for a carry gun and leaning towards 1911's and full size may be too big

I will +1 the Citadel. I carry the officers model daily. On a note, don't feed it semi-wadcutters... Hollowpoints have been ok.

It's more expensive but the Colt Defender is a good, small 1911. The Rock Island 1911 have a real good reputation and are reasonably priced.

The littler ones do require more maintenance (springs lead a harder life and the shorter stroke is less forgiving) but you are a couple years out of date with your statement.

Mine 3" is going on 6+ years, works flawlessly, and has had no "extra" maintenance. Cleaned after use. Feeds everything I've put into it, including SWC lead bullets and hollowpoints.

Dunno if you're interested in a 9mm 1911, but the Sig P938 is _tiny_. Saw one at Academy yesterday and that thing would disappear in a pocket.

My Springfield V10 makes a nice carry gun. Reasonably priced and Springfield's warranty is bulletproof.

I have a Para P-12 and a Colt Officer upper on a Rock Island full frame. They are both completely reliable with hollow points.
