Well, this conversation went right into the crapper...

I avoid sitting in public restrooms at all costs for a variety of reasons (the things some 'men' do to a restroom are disappointing at best)...but sometimes there's no choice. When it's happened while I was carrying, I took the biggest stall possible and laid the unholstered pistol in my pants to take care of things.

Situational awareness is a must if you are going to OC. I dont ever do it because I dont really see any point or advantage

Fortunately Open Carry is now legal again in Texas but gun security should still be a very valid concern for any of us carrying either concealed or openly. There are several reasonable steps I try to take including some level of retention in my holster choices, in pistols preferring those that still have mag safeties (triggers can still be made to feel and function nicely) since the original purpose was to be able to render the handgun inoperable simply by dropping the mag, when a handgun has a safety actually carrying it with the safety on (particularly on those worn openly).

The biggest things though are situational awareness and have plans "B & C" firmly made and practiced. For example I always carry a weak side concealed handgun and a small fixed blade knife when I open carry a larger gun. They give me several paths and options in a gun retention situation. If someone succeeds in getting my gun I am at least not unarmed and hopefully before the person can release the safety and use it I can respond. If it turns into a grappling contest the small fixed blade knife can also at least give me some chance of responding.

Also I try to remember that winning means being alive at the end of any confrontation.

If you open carry, a good quality gun belt and quality active retention holster (IOW, not a SERPA, uncle mikes, or one of those no name nylon universal holsters you see at the flea markets) are paramount, however you still need some situational awareness and knowledge/ability to fend off a gun grab.

...don't worry, at least some of who OC really DO have a plan re: retention holsters and gun-grab attempts. ;-)
And definitely yes, OCers need to have a higher level of SA than CCers do...

I don't think a discussion about preparedness, or training, or scenarios that one may encounter is any infringement on a right. The idea behind training is preparedness and developing a skill set to handle certain situations. If examples of others failure or problems are brought to light, then it's just another way to learn from others mistakes.

Feel free to carry by just sliding a pistol in your waistband if that's what you want to do. Most of us here will continue to discuss things like holsters and such that we don't consider an infringement.

Pretty gutsy to steal a person's handgun out of his or her holster! I'm glad it's a pretty rare occurrence.

I prefer concealed carry and think it is best in most situations but am glad open carry is legal. The few times I open carried it didn't do anything for me but was easier since you have more carry and clothing options. You definitely need to pay even more attention to your surroundings and use a retention holster. Keep your hands away from your handgun. Don't show it to anyone in public.

Explain this "target on your back" theory, and support your argument with facts please...

People who want to rob a gas station or something could see that you're armed and target you first.
I don't have any facts to back this up because they aren't necessary.

However, one could argue that the sight of the pistol could be a deterrent.

I'm not getting into that argument, though.
    I'm just explaining the theory.

I open carried my ass off all over the state today.

People who are stupid enough to rob a convenience store aren’t smart enough to case the joint properly or execute a plan to target someone who is open carrying, as a rule. Exceptions are sufficiently rare enough for me to consider such incidents a non-issue. There are plenty of more likely deadly things to worry about.
