Every generation is going to have their own musical tastes, heck, let'em have it. When I was a teenager metal was it! At 47 I'm still listening to metal and still driving a Camaro, lol. I'm going to look pretty silly if I make it into my sixties. I also love classical, country rock and just about anything that moves me.

The point of my posts was how clear and on pitch those singers were. Just the ability to sing without having their voices altered so they sound better.

Ha! That's the same thing most parents were saying in the 60's. Didn't stop anyone as far as I know. I think some of their music was pure genius.

    Therein is the core message.

At that time our parents/grand parents thought The Beatles were a vanguard of societal decline.

Today their genius captivated me and my son and 90,000 other, mostly young, listeners at ACL when McCartney ruled that stage 5 months ago in Austin.

My real purpose here, as OP, is to reconnoiter today's music scene.
What music being made today will be known and loved in 50 years by my grandkids as are the Beatles today?

    ??

I’d rather listen to ZZ Top, AC/DC, any number of Red Dirt country artists,or some ‘70s rock.

    Your post grabbed me.
Is you are a Spotify guy there is a playlist entitled "The Red Dirt Playlist" that presently contains 1,178 red dirt songs, 73.5 hours of music, and is an all time favorite of mine.

Most people don't know the "Red Dirt" metaphor.

That play list has turned me on to some great, previously unknown, artists.

....never understood the attraction to the Beatles, or The Who, Pink Floyd or any of the rest of that stuff I’m supposed to enjoy. .....

I'd never trust someone who purports to me what "I'm supposed to enjoy".

Therein lies one of the great attributes of music.
There can be no right or wrong.

Right now I'm listening to Augie Meyers.
Who can tell me I'm right or wrong?
    No-one!!

I would say many do know Red Dirt. I believe Pandora has that as well. Also, Justin Frazell has a great show on Sundays in DFW where showcases Texas country called Texas Red Dirt Roads. I highly recommend listening to that.

Meh, was never that much of a Beatles fan.

Besides, this was guaranteed to happen. The world's population is quickly increasing, and music is far easier/cheaper to buy today than it ever was when the Beatles were around. It was just a matter of time before some popular new act would outsell them.

Exactly. Gotta say I love Pink Floyds and David Gilmore's music. Not as much, Roger Waters. Few have Gilmore's ability on a guitar But there's no two bigger liberals than Gilmore and Waters. Too bad.
    Floyd is my favorite band.

Gilmour was the musical genius. Water was the lyrical genius. Floyd never would have been, if Gilmour wouldn't have found them and anchored their music. Water's was too deep and dark. Just look at their solo careers. Gilmour's solo's was still great music.

IMHO, Gilmour is the greatest guitar player. He plays that axe exactly where my soul wants him to take it.

Back when I did listen to music, I enjoyed both kinds. Country Western and Rock and Roll. Rap music was the beginning of the end for me. Can't stand the current Country or Rock music. No Rap, Hip Hop, or Ray Gay or Heavy Metal for me, thanks. I've become a music curmudgeon.

95.3 THe Range here in DFW is pretty much all Red Dirt, along with a bunch of classic country. Its where I got turned on to Robert Earl Keen, Max Stalling, Eleven Hundred Springs, Casy Donahue, and a ton of others.

Never heard this before. Didn't realize he had solo stuff.
