They were saying this about Trump in 2015. As much as I don't like him, I think he is a "sleeper" candidate that would have a chance. I heard earlier this week that Oprah will endorse him... That means all the liberal women will be clamoring over him in 2020.

Splintering the party so completely that no (supposedly) mainstream candidate can get enough traction is precisely what opens the door to a, shall we say, "novelty" candidate.

We know what happens when the Republicans go through that process. The results were mixed but certainly better than the Dem alternative.

I fear what sort of candidate would come out on top of the Dem field if they go through the same process. That fear is mitigated by the fact that such a candidate would likely be so wacko that Trump would get re-elected easily but, still, I don't underestimate the capability of the Dems to select a truly terrifying candidate.
