I ordered FrSky telemetry receivers and Turnigy autopilot/GPS for the larger planes and lightweight adjustable Orange stabilizer/receivers for the smaller trainers. The props I ordered for the ParkZone Sukhoi SU-29MM need to be reamed to fit so I ordered stepped reamers. I've crashed about a million times in the RealFlight simulator and am getting bored with it so I need to crash some real planes. I'm starting out with inexpensive very slow/stable trainers in my back yard (I'm on two acres). Soon I'll graduate to crashing the pricier aircraft. I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!
My boss keeps talking about a RC shop in The Woodlands so after flying today and headed to Conroe for some grub, I decided a little farther S. won't hurt. The only thing they had that I needed was this prop, and they charged $415.
It was my lucky day because it was buy one, get one free.
The Tx covers it but it is 4WD and STUPID quick!!! The dampering works just like a full size stadium truck. Not sure how they do it but it's cool. He demo'd a small 4WD buggy/sand rail type car that was quite impressive but said this smokes it, and it does. It came with one NiMh but also runs LiPo at the flick of switch so I asked if it can use my Elite batteries. Sure enough so he made an adapter.
Truth of the matter is I laid the prop on the counter and was ready to buy and leave when, what turned out to be the owner, asked if I needed anything else. I asked what was on sale and things went from there. After all was said, and done, and paid for, they picked up the truck box and there lay the prop underneath, forgotten. The owner handed it to me saying 'enjoy it'. That's good business.
It was bloody hot and dead air today but I had a good time at the field.
I pulled the Apprentice out of the car with floats on and started to remove them when an old man said "try it with them on". I'd heard of people successfully using them on wet grass but not on dry. I succumbed to the pressure and tried but alas, she would not budge even an inch under full throttle. Over came a guy who's helped me before and offered to give it a nudge. I'll be damned if that wasn't all that was needed and off she flew. Before takeoff I told them I was worried about nosing over on the landing and breaking the vert. stabilizer but she slid right in picture perfect. Besides, I had a spare tail assembly with me.
After the one flight with floats I did put the wheels on and man, what a difference! Takeoffs in under 9' and SOOO much more maneuverable. It's been at least a month since I had wheels on. And I can now truly say I can fly inverted. Sweeping lefts and rights with connecting straights. Not pretty and polished but definitely inverted flight.
And then there was the Corsair. Still porposing in SAFE mode and twitchy as can be. I guess I need to call HH and see about that gain thing.
I'm thinking about ordering the FatShark micro FPV Kit to learn with and ordering the camera, transmitter, and some other necessary doohickey recommended in one of the reviews to extend the range to 1+ mile as I have the extra cash.
I think I was reading the micro kit start to get static around 100 yards so it should be fine for the 200 QX. Maybe even the Delta Ray.
I think everything I would be at high risk of flying out of range and losing. Still, I would be better off having a limiting factor while learning or I would try to push out before I was ready. I'm not the patient type with these things.
Sorry about the framing, I couldn't see squat with today's glare.
These flying wings with small stabilizers at the wing tips are roughly 20" WS, foam and cost @ $65 + a transmitter. Sorry, I didn't catch the name or mfg.
About 8 old farts were bantering n name calling in the hangar until they FINALLY took flight. May be a *had to be there* situation but it was funny.
Back story, guy bought it and I told him He would be trying to sell it to me later for half price. He couldn't get it to bind. Said he would bring it to work and let me look at it but never did.
Few weeks later it was for sale @$80, week later it was $60, I took it at $50. Was a little nervous as I wasn't sure if the binding issue was with the electronics or operator headspace. Took me 3 minutes to have it running this morning.
