Okay, if Boxer applied for, and was awarded his patent for his "cartridge" design in England on Oct 13th, 1866 and awarded a patent here in the USA on June 29th, 1869, then what was Benet's design (employed by Frankford Arsenal) all about in early 1866? Shouldn't we be calling them Benet primers?

If the "Boxer" primers/cartridge was such a hit, why did the USA and Europe adopt the Berdan primer instead?

It would appear that the primers used in the USA where not even Boxer primers...but yet primers improved and patented from the Benet design in 1866?

How did the 1871 A.C. Hobbs/J Orcutt primer, and the later Hobbs 1874 patent ever get approved since Boxer all ready had the patent?

B.B. Hotchkiss' primer patent in Aug 31st, 1869 looks identical to Benet's drawing of 1866....but yet we call it a Boxer primer, that was never even used in the USA.

Interestingly enough, the primer designs still in use today came from Hobbs' and Gardner's types by 1882.

I vote we kick Boxer's royal butt all the way back to England and start calling them Benet primers.

    No.
But that could answer your question about why they're called boxer primers, and not Benet primers.
Who gets the patent typically gets the glory...how many times have we seen it? Yeap!!!

I have doing some reading...dangerous....very dangerous...and all though the primer is mentioned in Boxers Patent, some claim that he only
patented the cartridge design, which is what is stated on the patent. Other's say that the primer is not mentioned in the litigations.....whatever that means. I smell a loophole.

So technically if Boxer did not get an actual primer patent, then he is in the same ball park as Benet?

    Let the memes continue...LOL

He went on to invent boxer shorts, fought in the Boxer Rebellion, and made the first Jack-in the-boxer which he gave as a Christmas present to his Canadian friend. That was a bust, so the friend returned it on what would become known as Boxing Day.
And he finished things up by sending pics and memes to @msharley !
