There are three shooting positions. Standing, lying down (prone), and neither.

In the standing position, the shooter is either offhand without support (with or without a strap) or standing with a support for the rifle. This is the case for soldiers in the trenches, shooting behind a barricade or shooting on a tripod to name but a few examples.

The prone position is usually with the feet behind, lying on the stomach with the rifle held offhand (with or without a strap) but there are also shooting positions lying on the back, with the rifle at the height of the legs, watch out for your feet!

Now that we've eliminated the standing and lying groups, let's look at all the other positions, including the so-called sitting or kneeling positions. If the difficulty of a standing shot lies in the lack of stability without support, a prone shot allows for much better support but does not allow the shooter to be easily mobile when necessary.

So, the "neither" positions all have the advantage of representing an interesting compromise between stability and the ability to move. In addition, insofar as a supported position may cause "interference" in the harmonic of the barrel, including with a bi-pod, allowing the shooter to maintain his total independence without the need for support can be very interesting.

Now you might understand better my previous thread named UNCONVENTIONAL SITTING POSITIONS ( https://www.texasguntalk.com/threads/unconventional-sitting-positions.123329/ )
