What's best on ham steaks - mustard or jelly? I occasionally go back and forth but have basically settled on grape jelly. There are four people on that CFS thread that think ham steaks are better!

Growing up there was only one jelly and that was Welch's Concord Grape. At some point I just stopped eating grape jelly. I never ate a PB&J sammich until about 15 years ao when I tried it with cherry preserves. Put a bottle of Welch's grape juice in front of me & its gone. What's best on ham steaks - mustard or jelly? A buddy of mine says his dad put grape jelly on roast beef. I was also surprised by people eating grape jelly on a sausage & biscuit.

That bottle brings back memories. My dad used to use that all the time when I was little. Forgot all about it. Thanks! No mention of a bottle of Tabasco peppers for the vinegar! View attachment 211730

I have one jar of my grandmother's fig preserves. She put it up in ~1968. I wonder if it's still good? One thing I miss about my grandmother, was her and my aunts canning all the time.
I wonder! I know we were still eating canned vegetables several years later after they were put up in the cellar after she canned them.I have one jar of my grandmother's fig preserves. She put it up in ~1968. I wonder if it's still good?

Why DO we call it "canning" when the product is stored in JARS ????
Indeed. You can avoid your confusion by using the proper Southern terminology, which is "putting up."
