Unless you're Wylie Coyote painting tunnels on walls... I'm not sure how this'll help survive a SHTF situation.

Now that is an important and unique skill to have. Pretty hard to fend of zombie hordes with a chapped ass and dingle berries
Corn cobs, Sears catalog pages, flowing water - way too many substitutes for this to be a vital skill.

OTOH, I've made writing paper. It's not terribly hard and I could do it again.

I need to do a skills assessment that has something more than guns and computers on it. Seriously. I know this is a fun thread but, yeah, seriously.

You made reconsider the list. Asking oneself, What can I do without public services, Wal-Mart, and ammo?

I have a green thumb. Since a child, I could plant vegetables, trees, and fruit that'd thrive. I was operating a John Deere Model C as a preteen (planting corn) I can make my own potting soil that doesn't need anything added with no chemical fertilizer. Make my own mulch. PH adjusted. I can show you how to bonsai a tomato plant. Matters of irrigation. Salinity of the soil. Rotation. Times of the year to plant. When it's ready to harvest and the harvest that can be expected. (I shoulda been a farmer)

I can forge iron work. I know how to make nails. I can also make smaller metal items by hand. I could make a micrometer measured, hardened and tempered, duplicate fire control group for most firearms. I can also make tools to do all the above.

All things mechanical. It doesn't matter. If human hands made it. I can fix it, duplicate it, and maintain it.

I can maintain live stock. I can manage cattle, goats, rabbits, chickens, hogs, fish pond and anything else a person wants to eat. Health, feed, shelter. I can also butcher any of the above and cook it in a Damn decent meal. Using a stick and a camp fire.

I can also sew clothes. From shirts, pants, to a full length Duster coat using a treadle sewing machine. Bobbin or shuttle.
