Just bought a Rolling gun case that has the Solid foam. Tell me how you cut yours. I want actual stories of those who have done it.

    thanks in advance.

Same. Here’s a good, short article with video.

At one point, I used a band saw to cut half off the bottom of the foam when I got a case that didn’t have two layers, and then cut the silhouettes with an electric knife. Then I glued the two back together so there was foam under the gun.

Sharpie outline and an electric knife with serrated edge. Works like a charm. Not much else to say!

    Good luck.

You mean like a fishing filet knife? That's the only electric knife I have seen.

Just an FYI....never used open cell PE (polyethylene) foam. Only use closed cell......I cleaned (as best I could) a Weatherby MKV that had been left in a case with open cell foam under a bed for several years......it was totally decomposed and a freaking huge mess..........scope was toast.....rifle was salvaged but you still tell something had happened to it................

My stuff won't be stored in it. Just transported. But thanks for the heads up, it will be used for two expensive rifles.

Traced and used a new sharp knife (long X-Acto type blade) on mine, looks like a boars ass.

I will be custom ordering a replacement eventually.

Tried the Sharpie and electric knife method with crappy results.

I'm sure it was on my end as I had trouble keep the knife straight and ended up with ragged cut. It holds the rifle fine, but isn't pretty.

I think they are talking about an electric knife that some use to carve up the turkey on Thanksgiving.
I used the sharpie and long x-acto knive blade when I did mine years ago. Someone not too long ago posted about using a hot wire. Not sure where that thread is or what the results were.
