They fired him three days before he was going to pass on the command?

When that happens it usually to get something on the record that will impact the follow-on assignment.

Doesn’t matter if you’re on day one of command or the last day of command, a commander must always hold the confidence of his superior commander.

ETA: the full USAF statement includes the phrase “raised concerns about good order and discipline within the 96th CEG”. This usually means he was diddling someone in his command.

    Seems to happen fairly often.
Don't they know they're not supposed to be doing that?

Yikes. I bet he already bought a house at his next (probably now cancelled) duty assignment and his current house is all packed up. Its summer, so maybe even had a romantic cruise to the Med arranged with his soon-to-be ex wife.

True story time. No shit, there we were at an expeditionary air base in late 2002. The squadron’s deputy commander was the deployed commander. His deployed boss was also our home station boss.

She walked in on him in coitus with a very, very, junior subordinate officer. She gave him an immediate cease and desist order followed up by a no contact order. Due to the circumstances, he couldn’t be fired immediately as there wasn’t another eligible officer in theater at that point, but hi pending permanent command endorsement was rescinded.

Fast forward about three weeks and she walked him doing it again (with the same officer)and he was fired on the spot and sent home. and he was put in charge of the IG function until he decided to retire in lieu of being court-martial’d. He later divorced his wife and married the chick.

Apparently, this plane Jane was the golden piece of ass that rocked his world to oblivion.

I'd bet you're exactly right - AF spokesman speak from the article: "in accordance with Air Force regulations, relief of command may be used as a basis to support subsequent collateral adverse administrative action in some situations."

What a pussified way to say it.

A well respected retired army officer and family friend tells a story of a steller officer next in line for a command position that tradationally was held by an academy grad. He was NOT an academy grad but the guy in line behind him was. Everyone knew what was going to happen. He fails the next inspection.

    Helotes!

    Wonder what he did?

Does anyone think this is new? It's a regular occurrence (both the firing and the vague reason for doing so).

My experience has been it's a 50/50 chance of either something the commander did wrong or their leadership wanting to get rid of them for some BS reason!

That said, there always has been a lot of diddling going on.

I knew a Zoo grad/twice BTZ golden boy clearly on his way to GO status forced to retire for diddling a SrA (as RUMINT claims)...
