Noting a recent post here quoting an article describing the declining relative strength of the NRA, I felt that a separate thread was warranted, as so many current II-A supporters don't know or understand the background.
Speaking as a long term NRA & TSRA "Life Member"; the problem is that what was once our "NRA" has become Wayne's "LaPierre-NRA".
No matter what kind of job he may have done, it is unhealthy for a members-driven organization to remain a dictatorship for so long.
In the wake of the "Knox Uprisings", little Wayne was able to set-up an unassailable fortress of his own via the "Nominating Committee" and other regulatory devices, to insure that Wayne gets his way, no matter what the actual members think or say.
Then, he abused the "ILA" in such way as to enter our LOCAL politics, without the proper intelligence or advisors to carry it off.
If we are to "save" "our" NRA, the time for Wayne to go is long past.
I would hope that those ensconed in the "Nominating Committee" could see the light and refuse to serve his dictatorship. "Uncle Ted", Colonel North, Mr. Tom Selleck, etc; are Y'all paying attention here?
So, until Wayne dies, or until someone finds a way to breech his impenetrable administrative "fortress", we are stuck with a "LaPierre NRA".
Our only alternative today is to "vote with our feet", and with our dollars.
Like it, or not, this is today's NRA.
