Wanted to give everybody a heads up early. TLRS will hold the Texas Sniper Championships at Best Of The West July 9th. Target Vision is coming and they are going to set up wireless Target Cams and have a big TV screen behind the firing line for folks to watch in case of mirage. They have a new line of products and new price points that you really need to see. Your own personal long range target camera system has just gotten affordable.

We are rounding up pop up canopies to put behind the firing line between the firing line metal canopy and the parked cars. This gives us some shade behind the firing line and keeps the line uncrowded, so if any of you have one or can borrow one please bring it. Millard the owner of BOTW told me he will let spectators that are not entered in for ---FREE--- they just need to sign in and wear eye and hearing protection at all times. That is fantastic because we can draw in more people and competitors can bring their whole family to watch for free. Be sure and bring your lunch, drinks and snacks so you do not have to leave and drive into Liberty Hill. There will be acres of free parking 75 yards from the firing line, so competitors can drop off their gear and chairs and go park.

We went to The Chris Kyle Sniper Challenge and had a blast and it was one of the best run events we have ever been to, so that course of fire will be the model with a few changes. There will be two classes 308 and less and the open class for the magnums, the range limit on the magnums is 338. We will have two prone positions and one bench for the match. So we will be calling the shooter up, the on deck and the in the hole to keep this really moving. Each shooter will have a 3 minute course of fire for the shots, so the next shooter will have that time to get his stuff ready at the mat and as soon as the completed shooter is scored we will alternate to the next position and start that competitor firing. All firing order lists will show first name and last name initial. We are going to allow Juniors and Seniors the option of shooting from the bench with a bipod or bag and a rear bag. Ages that qualify are under 18 and over 65. Everybody else will shoot bipod or bag with rear bag but from the prone position. 3-bag limit total weight of less than 15 lbs.

PRIZES---- we will pay back 100% of entries so 50% first, 30% 2nd and 20% 3rd place for each of the two classes. We are reducing the entry from the Kyle event that was $150 to $49 for your first rifle and $39 for other rifles for the same shooter, BOTW has a standard range fee for members and visitors that are shooting. At the Kyle event they furnished lunch and supper and the entire event was a very well-run massive undertaking but we are letting you bring your own and keeping the entry fee low. The prize split is for each class, so the more competitors the more the prize payout. For example if the 308 and less class has 100 entries, depending on how many are first rifles or other rifle entries then 1st place would be near $2,500. The InsaneAccuracy YouTube channel is having 25 Texas Long Range Shooters caps made and is donating them for the first 25 multiple gun shooters. They are a sharp looking cap that is a conversation starter at ranges and deer camps. North130Storage, another sponsor, has offered to send you an invoice for your advance entries thru SquareUp. They will send you a Square invoice thru e-mail that you pay directly without giving your credit card info over the phone. They are part of the shooting community and said they do not save or share e-mail addresses. So e-mail us and we will get you an entry form and an invoice to pay with your credit card. Please do not wait until the last few days to enter.

For the course of fire there will be a plate rack at 500-yards that will have 4-plates form 12” down to 6”, then a plate a 12” at 600 yard and 600 meters and then a big confirmation plate at 750 that will be 18”x24” and then 12” at 1,000 yds. This is a total of 8 targets and 8 shots in 3-minutes if you hit them all. The plate rack at 400 will be unlimited shots but you must hit all the plates before you advance, the 600 yards and 600 meters then you go to 750 yards, make it count. If you miss the BIG plate at 750-yards the RO will call you to go back to 600. You must hit 600 meters and the 750 yard BIG confirmation plate in sequence then you go to a 1,000 yards. The only limit on your shots will be the required hit sequence from 600 meters to 750-yards. But if you let it rip with a gas gun and get your barrel hot the odds of completing the course thru 1,000 yards and making the finals are slim. Accuracy trumps speed but you have 3 minutes for 8 shots. The biggest difference in BOTW and the Kyle event is there are berms behind all the targets so if you have a close miss you can see it. The Kyle event to add to the challenge was the targets were on a hillside without a full berm behind it. Yes you were shooting into the grass so some distances were impossible to spot a miss.

Since the open class for the magnums cannot shoot 8-paced shots in a row without really heating up the barrel, we changed the course of fire to accommodate them and hope to draw more competitors. There will be the same targets and distances but each competitor will get one shot at each yardage and will acquire points. The points for 600yds, 600 meters and 750-yards will be 1-point, the 1,000 yard target will be 4-points. The plate rack at 500 will be a know your limits rack, you get one shot, pick your plate. The 12” will be 1-point as the sizes get smaller the points go to 2, then 3, then the smallest is 4. As you notice the over 2 MOA plates are worth 1-point and the 1-MOA plates are worth 4- points at 500 and 1,000 yards. This keeps the number of shots down for the magnums and adds some real excitement and strategy to the match. A one or two point plate might be better than 0 on a 4 point plate.

The sudden death shoot off for each class will be, we will move the 500-yard plate rack to 1,000 yards if winds are 10 mph or less at the time the shoot off begins or over 10 mph it will be placed at 600-yards and you get 4 shots. This is a big undertaking and folks will be coming in from out of town, so since the firing line is covered and we will have some canopies set up there behind the line, the event will be rain or shine no refunds. This way contestants can book a hotel if they do not want to drive back that day. We anticipate with the multiple firing stations and starting first shooter at 8:30AM we can finish this Saturday if everybody cooperates and keeps it moving. If we have to have the Finals on Sunday because of increased turnout BOTW is open Sunday that would be what we would do.

We are starting to contact potential sponsors to see who can help out since we are paying back 100% of the entry fees. If you know of any business or organization that would want to get involved and come set up displays or bring their products to show all the competitors and spectators please forward this to them so they can e-mail us. Since Best of The West is such a massive facility with huge rifle range, 16 Tac Bays, pistol range and skeet and trap, remind your potential sponsors they easily have 350 shooters there each weekend day if the weather is decent without adding all the traffic of this event. Hope to see all of you there.

I think I might go just to watch and learn. Looking to get into the long range fun!
Thanks for the post. We invite all to come and join the family. BOTW will let spectators in for free and there will be a video screen under a canopy set up by http://targetvisioncam.com/ so your wife and kids do not have to stay glued to a spotting scope to watch the action. You can learn a lot from competitors about equipment and tactics. You know watching a shooter run a bolt as fast as a semi-auto is just a thing of beauty. Pack a lunch and some drinks and come join us to shoot or watch.
