According to Texas instructors like Cargill who teach license-to-carry classes, the There are still benefits to taking the class and receiving a permit: knowledge about the law, ability to carry a gun across state lines and peace of mind.

Phil Ryan, who teaches license-to-carry courses at Texas Concealed Carry Institute in McKinney, said the No. 1 reason people attend his classes is to learn the laws, adding that it’s “because they know in one second, they could become a criminal.” (From the Bearing Arms blog)

I know places that went from 30.06 to 30.05 or the old alcohol sold so people carrying unlicensed firearms are subject to 7 years in prison.

I plan on renewing mine and my buddy already made plans with me to practice to take his in class portion of the course. Worth it in lieu of a background check and reciprocity in other states alone for me.

I’ll always keep mine. The NICS bypass is nice for someone that always catches a delay. And gives you a few additional places to carry.

I'll continue to do so because our neighboring states do not have constitutional carry laws, but have reciprocity with Texas LTCs, fast and convenient buying of new guns, etc.

Plus, for what little flex it is, I can produce a card that proves a state government found me to have 0 convictions, and I passed a state test to prove the most basic of competency.

Though from what I remember of the state test, it was laughably easy.

State licenses are useful when going to other States that respect them.

There is little reason to give them up...but that's from the perspective where the king does not require a license to be renewed.

What is often overlooked is how many States are finally respecting "Constitutional Carry" even towards folks that are not residents of the individual State.

MUCH better than the "national reciprocity" bullshit.
