I have stumbled across a decent deal on an RV to put on my deer lease.
Trouble is, there is no title in hand right now.
    So therefore, no plates.

The trailer was an inheritance and removed from a lease.
Seller claims that probate has requested a title, but it isn't here yet.

Can I get temporary tags to transport from the seller's place to mine?

I searched TxDMV.gov and couldn't find anything about temp tags except for oversized trailers.

Probably not what you are looking for but just throw a different trailer tag on it for the trip. Or go with no tag.

I have found that many officers don't look at trailer tags. I hauled my dad's trailer around all day before noticing that it had two tags on it. And both were expired. And neither belonged on the trailer.

I hauled my work trailer around for 9 months past due before I realized it. No one even noticed including me.

The right thing to do? Not really but it will work.

I think without the title you are screwed anyways.

if you are caught with a trailer tag that doesn't belong to that trailer you are going to get a ticket unless you just run into a super nice LE

I would just make sure the lights all work and the tires are good and go without a tag. Have your story ready if you are pulled over.
It would be better to have no tags then having the wrong tags

I don't know Mitch, if it were me, I wouldn't move that rig until the probate stuff is straight.

You can get a permit from DPS to transport. Point A to point B.
We did it when we hauled an untitled smoker/trailer to Amarillo.
Dates of travel and route need to be specified.
About 10 dollars if I remember right.

That's good advice and I've done due diligence.
The probate court has ordered the title and there is documentation to that effect.

Backup plan is a bonded title if this all falls to pieces.

From Ft. Worth to Granbury initially.

And once repairs are complete, Granbury to Johnson City down 281 ... through your neck of the woods.

Go down to Assessors office and get temp. tags for it. You WILL NEED the VIN number. I think it cost me about 20-25 bucks for a thirty day tag for my fifth wheel.

To be honest though, when I moved it from Mineola, east Texas to Midland, west Texas, I forgot to get tags for it and didn't realize it until I was parked in Midland. Nobody even noticed. I even had a county cop follow me for a few miles at the first part of the trip.

    Yup, right by me.

I am not sure but I think the no title/ probate issue will keep you out of any totally legal way to move it. The VIN number will pull up the last registered owner's name. I am guessing the last owner is deceased.

I will admit though that I am not too familiar with your options besides just grabbing it and going.

You could also just load it onto another trailer as long as it isn't too tall.

I have to admit, I'm a little aprehensive.

The last registered owner has passed away.
Over the last couple weeks of discussion, the story has remained consistent.
Probate documents shows the transfer of ownership
It has a temp tag on it now.
The new "owners" are moving so they have no place to store it.
The price is stupid cheap and worth the risk.

I've pulled lots of trailers over the years and never had an issue with registration or inspection.

My biggest concern is the trip to from FW to GB.
Once I get it to the lease, that's where it will live the rest of its life.

Ultimately, I want to get it all legal-like.

I pulled a travel trailer from Florida to Michigan and back with the back of a Dr. Pepper box attached where the plate goes and wrote tag applied for with magic marker . Never got as much as a second look. YMMV lol

That is weird. I just bought a camper this morning from that area............

J/k. I hate that shit. Selling their soul for a few more dollars probably.

    Better luck next time.

    That sucks

If you'd rather have a fifth wheel for the lease, mine is up for sale.
