This is Unsinkable Sam, aka Oscar, a cat that served with the Kriegsmarine (navy of Nazi Germany) and the Royal Navy (navy of the UK) during World War 2.⁣⁣

He was reported to have belonged to a sailor onboard the German battleship Bismarck.

On May 18, 1941, Bismarck was on its first mission when it was sunk by the Allies. Out of the 2,100 crew members on board, only 115 men and one cat survived.⁣

The HMS Cossack scooped up the cat and gave him the name Oscar. For the next few months, Oscar lived on the ship until it was hit by torpedoes from a German U-boat, which killed 159 crew members but not Oscar, who was brought to the shores of Gibraltar by the remaining survivors.⁣

Oscar was soon transferred to the HMS Ark Royal where he was given the name, "Unsinkable Sam". Ironically, the Ark Royal was heavily involved in the sinking of the Bismark. After a series of near misses, the ship had garnered a reputation for being a "lucky ship", however its luck would soon run out.

On November 14, 1941, the Ark Royal was torpedoed by a U-boat, causing it to roll over and sink. Sam was found clinging to a piece of wood and was described as "angry, but quite unharmed".⁣ ⁣

The sinking of the Ark Royal ended Sam's career at sea and he lived out his remaining years in Belfast with a seaman until 1955.⁣ ⁣

Presently in the USA, FDA regulations allow for a food product to carry a “Sugar Free” Label, as long as there is negligible Sucrose in it.

But it can be crammed with any of the other SUGARS commonly found in our foods; like maltose, fructose glucose, lactose, etc.

Sucrose and the others are promptly converted to glucose once ingested.

One should learn to read the lables; the bureaucrats & industry lobbyists have created a new & intentionally confusing language for food labels.

I look for carb content in everything.
    <>

Well, ‘’Keto”, Adkins (Atkins) low-fat & lwo carb have all been scientifically debunked by actual Science.

Yes, one could lose weight with the first two; but the weight comes right back 98% of the time.

The studies were precipitated by Pennington’s dietary Scientists’ & others’ repeated long term failures using the Adkins style & ”Keto” or ”Modified Keto” schemes.

The current “very low SUGAR” diets with behavior modification from LSU Pennington Center and the U of Texas Dallas Med School have been shown to work long term.

Millions of $’s were spent in several long-term studies involving family/genetic studies, large group monitoring, historical studies, and actual food content analyses by University Biochemists.

    Much has been debunked.

This info and the programs “Naturally Slim” (“NS”), “Wonder Health” (“WondR”), plus the commercially available “Noom” tend to use these principles to effect permanent healthy weight-loss. The first two are available via many employers’ “employee health programs”, paid for by the employers via U of Texas Dallas Group.

Every other commercially available weight loss program I’ve ever seen advertised is just another scam.
