This position is an integral member of the team that supports core IT services including both systems infrastructure and enterprise applications. The Systems Developer effectively performs analysis and design, creation, modification, installation and maintenance of web applications and services, custom data integrations, and tools using complex relational databases to meet and enhance the services and operations of the campus technology offerings. This position also works as part of a larger functional team to support the campus web presence (inward and outward facing).

Primary Duties:
- Develop/ support custom integrations between 3rd party applications and services with university systems.
- Work as a collaborative team member with IT technical staff to develop and support tools for managing the university’s core technologies and applications.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to provide robust data integrations and web services.
- Implement computer security for web and other applications.
- Design, code, and maintain web-based applications and services.
- Provide technical support related to IT services and databases to members of IT and other departments.
- Investigate new technologies and best practices to remain fluent in field of systems and web development.
- Write documentation for all generated code, services, and routine processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
- Demonstrated experience designing and coding flexible, robust systems/services using open standards.
- Demonstrated experience writing programs and web applications interfaced with relational database technology (e.g., MySQL, Postgress, MS-SQL, Oracle, etc).
- Expertise building and maintaining Linux/UNIX-based applications.
- Experience managing and programming in an Apache/Tomcat environment.
- Demonstrated programming experience in a LAMP environment as well as with Java/JSP/J2EE.
- Demonstrated experience with current web technologies: eg. HTML5, CSS.
- Superior analytical and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including a strong work ethic.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work proactively, collaboratively, and effectively in a team environment.
- Strong analytical, technical, and organizational skills.
- Initiative, flexibility, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Experience with uPortal in a higher education environment.
- Java Hibernate and Spring experience is useful.
- Development experience with Windows Server, IIS, .Net and MS-SQL.
- Good web/graphic design skills including site design and graphics.
