Suburban FW councilman riles up some with views on guns / carrying / etc.

A newly elected city councilman in Watauga, TX (a suburb on the northeast side of Fort Worth) has some of his constituents in an uproar about his views on guns, carrying in the city council meetings, police training seniors in self-defense with shotguns and pistols, etc.

At least the man is thinking of ways to break the bond folks have to government. I always wondered why folks would call the cops on a neighbor and I would never do that. I will always go to the person who is acting up and talk to them personally before moving on to the next step. He is right. Government is not our nanny.

As far as the firearms go.....I thought that was how we should be. We protect our own homes and family and the cops fill out reports.

Is it legal for the city to deny CHL in the meetings? I can't remember, but something about that is tripping an alarm in my memory...

Not too sure about the guns in a council meeting, but you can NOW carry political signs on City owned property.

It's amazing how many people have that mentality about letting the government take care of them. Like he said in the article churches and private group used to do a lot more.

The forced part bothers me too. The idea in general is great. Maybe change required to should not be discouraged.

that why I said he has some good ideas. nobody should have anything forced on them. I would be ok with the police giving voluntary safety classes if they are trianed to perform such training. but he thinks because the city pays $25k a year in ammo and training that an officer is qualified to teach, which is not the case. Hell, $25k on training and ammo is pretty wimpy for an entire department

That is a tiny city with a handful of officers. I'd be surprised if they had 50 officers.

I'll bet that plays pretty well in that town.

Haha...yeah...requiring someone to carry a gun is a little over the top. Although I don't think CCW should be disallowed ANYWHERE.

THIS seems to be the mentality of too many politicians and the

that keep electing them. We don't need the government "to take care of us." We need the government to butt out of our private lives and to stop creating nanny state rules and regulations. Clements seems to be of that frame of mind although some of the wording of his comments does leave things lacking.
