I wanted to add a lil' something to my bob other than tablets and filters for making clean water. These sound interesting but I don't know a single person who has ever personally used one. I know it doesn't eliminate filters but it seems like a great alternative when boiling water is out of the question. I would prefer one that uses CR123s but it's not a big deal. There seem to be a lot of versions out there and I don't trust Amazon for reviews, I'd prefer the opinion of another TGT member.

I just got the Hand Crank one. Haven't used it yet but I like how it didn't
require pills, chemicals, tubing, or batteries. Supposed to do 8,000 liters.
I like the idea of carrying it rather than actual water that is heavy & finite.

I love my Steripen. Been backpacking with one for years, I don't have any complaints. Before my Steripen I used a hand pumped charcoal filter.
