Red don't rush I have to go to a funeral this weekend in Amarillo and I won't have the pistol in my hands until next week. Then I'll need to know what sanding materials I need. I'll basically be disassembling and cleaning it as you did sanding off the blueing and then taking it to a shop to have it reblued.

Will do and sorry for your loss.

Looks like I was wrong, gun will be here Friday, I'm going to disassemble it then so if you can give me step by step disassembly instructions I can at least do that before cleaning and sanding.

EDIT -- reading earlier in the thread looks like there is some pretty good instructions already. I don't have some of the punches and tools required I believe, I'm going to do my best to take it apart and thoroughly clean it. I'll pick up the sand paper today so that I'm ready for it when it comes in.

Will do, are you mirror polishing those guns? I avoid high polish like the plague, lol. I prefer a brushed finish, it's much easier and doesn't scuff or scratch easily. I'll post up what I know though.
Well the Star LOOKS like you mirror polished it...lol

Im putting a mirror finish on all the friction points on the Witness (internal). The Browning will be inside and out but I love the finish on the Star so wanted to know exactly what level you took it to to achieve that look.

I got mine today and will have to take it to a gunsmith. The barrel bushing is bent and probably will have to be replaced. I could not even get it apart. I wouldn't dare fire it in the condition it is in and I always disassemble and clean guns before firing them anyway. Needless to say I am a little disappointed, but it is what it is.

    DarkPriest667,

LOOKS OK but I'd call the vendor & tell them that it arrived in UNSHOOTABLE shape. = They may send you another one, as I used to do when I was a vendor long ago.

I took it to McClelland Gun Shop in Dallas, told them that they did a bang up job on someone's pistol that was posted here and they will do everything Red did plus bluing for about 300 bucks. 6 to 8 weeks turn around time. Will post pictures when it returns.

I may just have to do this with one of mine. Of the two, one looks pretty good as-is, but the other one could be a gem if it could look like Red's pistol.

I'll report back with pictures.. You saw the before I'll show you the after.
Outstanding. Here's my two, with #1 being the better of the two and could be left as-is (I have done some cold blue on it). But even #2 is better than a lot of the surplus BM9s that I've seen.

That's a bummer about the barrel bushing. A shame you didn't get to try it out before taking it in. McClelland will take care of you though. That's a funny gun shop, you wouldn't even know it was there if you didn't have the address beforehand. They do darn good work though. Look forward to seeing the finished product.

Polishing carbon steel is easy, it's just getting a mirror finish on stainless steel that's tough. I can get stainless almost perfectly clear but there always seems to be some cloudiness. I just picked up a polishing wheel and some wool wheels. I think with the wheels and a good polishing rough I can finally get stainless perfect.

Ok, I still plan on doing a tutorial on polishing and brushing gun steel, I'm going to wait until next week though when the temperature in my work shed is above freezing.:p

Yea this stainless is tough. Doing internal frame work has been slow. Trigger blocks on each side, very little room, special slanted sticks and used 320/600/1500 to get there. Probably 3-4000 strokes.

Gotta admit, its tested my patience, Im used to doing aluminum from the old race car days:green:

In the beginning I was worried about changing dimensional tolerances.

Now that Im into doing it, Im like...crap, doing hand sanding on this, polishing with the 600/1500, you couldnt change a tolerance if ya tried.

Thought I could get this done in a week. Looks like it will take 2.

So mine should be done next week. Anyone know of a good leather holster for these?

    Can't wait to see it.

I've been using this leather holster from Relentless Tactical. It's rigid enough to do the job and the leather is smooth like suede so it doesn't stick to you, well sewn and tough. Easy on the pistol finish too, will fit 1911's as well. $39.99 from Amazon, left or right hand draw, make sure to select which draw before ordering.

Well I went up to Dallas and picked it up yesterday. McClelland Gun shopt did a bang up job. It cost 330 to have it stripped down and reblued. Here's the two photos I shot of it last night.

Awesome! Another Star BM returns to service.:shades: I shot my mine this afternoon, I'm at close to 700 trouble free rounds, great little pistols.
