I question the logic of these pastors. Seems they're herding their flock over a cliff. For one even if you no vote the presidential race there are other votes on that ballot that are important.African-American Christians waver over vote - Houston Chronicle

Some black clergy see no good presidential choice between a Mormon candidate and one who supports gay marriage, so they are telling their flocks to stay home on Election Day. That's a worrisome message for the nation's first African-American president, who can't afford to lose any voters from his base in a tight race.

There are other candidates running to look at that may be appropriate. Such as mentioned above or the rep from the Socialist Party and the Peace and Freedom Party:

Declared 2012 PFP & Socialist Presidential Candidate
    Political Activist

    Stewart Alexander

In terms of hedging your bets, the 59-year old former radio talk show host has it down pat and probably created a little bit of history for himself in the process. Alexander has declared his candidacy for the Oval Office seat with two different political parties; the Socialist Party and the Peace and Freedom Party. This will be Alexander’s first attempt for the office after a failed Vice-Presidential bid in 2008.

That's just real sad and one of the major reasons that I don't go to church. You get more BS in a church and meet more 2 faced people there than in a Gin Mill. At least in a bar, you expect liars and phoneys. There's nothing dishonest about them....they are what they are. What possible motive could a preacher have for telling their "flock" to ignore their civic duty?

My Bishop always said that church isn't a heaven for saints, as most folks think and treat it as, it's a hospital for sinners. Really changed my attitude. You can't go expecting everyone to be perfect. What you can do is fellowship and be fellowshiped by those striving to do the best they can to get better with a common belief in God.

Just like we don't expect everyone here to shoot well. We can help them shoot better though or just enjoy the fact we all like guns.

So the mere mention of a "church" in a post or the mention of advice from a clergyman and a thread gets locked? Really...?

Discussion of religion is strictly forbidden here. I've seen threads get locked for a whole lot less than what is on this one. We'll just have to see where it goes.

Generally threads discussing things like carry at church and the like survive but as soon as it turns to a discussion of religion in general its only a matter of time before the lock.

As a long time member I am familiar with the rule. I just find it absurd that the mention of "bishop" or "church" gets a thread locked when there is no ill will in the context of the post or thread.
Seems that such an extreme approach is a little overkill.

See post #4. In recent history, that has been enough to get a thread locked. I ain't saying it's right or wrong, just urging caution.
