We have been shooting IHMSA on this range since 1977, I believe, and have
never had any problems with neighbors until bout 3 years ago, when a lady
that has property next door, began accusing us of shooting her exotic deer.
She even dragged one close to our 50 meter firing line so we could smell
the rotting body. This kinda gives you an idea of what kinda person we
are dealing with. Long story short, yesterday we received news that the
lady and her father have retained lawyers, and our match director canceled
next month's last match of the year. It doesnt look good for our continued
    existence.

    Time to fight or fold.

I assume someone has knocked on their door and tried to make peace.

Is this private property y'all shoot on or an actual range? Is it locked up or monitored between matches?

Dawico, this is land we lease from Howard Dietz, who runs the shooting range as you
come in off of hwy 46. We have leased it from Howard ever since it was built in 1975,
I believe. Yeah, this woman is a real byotch, comes over to fence when members
are using range for practice, tells them she gonna put us outta business, etc.

I was just curious about access to the range.

Maybe somebody did shoot her exotic animal while unsupervised as retribution for her antics.

Or maybe not. Some people just can't be reasoned with.

I wish you good luck in your battle.

Damn - people around here are going crazy. First the closest range to me - County Line Shooting Center, now that.

Not only that, but we noticed the frame work of a new house being
built in line with our turkey berm, and we used a laser range finder,
and its only 713 yards straight behind said berm. It will be only a
matter of time til some idiot visitor to our range puts a bullet through
it! So, maybe its time for us to move on, I dont know.

Acorneau, probably we will, if these folks listen to reason, but like I said,
this woman is on a mission, and once the lawyers get involved, well, I've
seen this situation before, in Victoria, Texas, and that range was shut down!

Yessir, thats the one, but we think people have been sneaking in, anyway.
Climb over fence, go around, etc. We had one idiot that was coming in with
a .50 cal browning rifle of some kind, and shooting up our berms! It was
shooting completely through them, one guy told me.

Interesting you say that. I heard the same thing recently from an older gentleman at the doctors office. He said he was also an RO out there aswell as a silhouette shooter. He was telling me about his older black powder rifles. Very nice but I didn't get his name.

Orbie, probably 99.9% of our club are good upstanding folks, who are just glad
to have a nice range like that to shoot on. The other .01 crew are the ones that
    ruin it for everyone.

I shot the Victoria range. I shot Dietz. I shot IHMSA everywhere back in the 1970s and early 1980s. Even though I haven't been there in a dogs age, the news that the New Braunfels range is endangered is heartbreaking to me.

    Gunz are icky.
I grew up just down the road from Dietz back in the 70's.
It was out in the middle of no where then.
Today its almost in a subdivision.

Looks like good news on this front. I got this email tonite:

    Hello all,

Most of you know we have had some issues with the neighbor to the west of the range. Also, there is new housing construction clearly visible directly in line with our big bore 100 meter berm only 713 yards from our firing line. The decision has been made to remove the big bore 50 meter berm and move it just to the west of the 50 meter .22 berm. Ken Shilling has agreed to perform the dirt work to move the berm and to raise the 100 meter big bore berm. Buddy Rhoads is planning to help with the layout to be sure we can see all the targets once complete. The dirt work should be complete before our next IHMSA match weekend October 11 and 12. We have cancelled the match for the October weekend and are planning to move the rails to the new berm. Everyone is invited to help if they can on October 11 and 12 to finish the range work. All this work is to improve the range layout and help prevent any bullets getting off our leased property onto the neighbors property. The range owners have indicated they would be willing to extend our lease if we can satisfy the concerns of the neighbors to the west. Currently our lease extends through 2018.

Attached is the match report for September.

Benenglish, that is great news! I havent talked to John Weaver since our last match on
September 14th, so this is just great news. We dont start back on IHMSA matches until
the second weekend in February 2015. If I can get down there on October 11 & 12th, I
will be glad to help them out.
