I had picked this up a few years ago, and brought it down from Ohio when I visited my brother while he was in the hospital. I believe it to be an earlier production 24 as it has iron sights and I noticed on the Savage website the newer ones have Picatinny rail. Just looking for a little info about year manufactured and if it is possible to get a scope mount for it. (Called old man: can't see as well as I could, to take aim with the rifle.)

It also has a button on the right side of receiver for selecting barrels.

    Appreciate any info.

1970's, the barrel selector was an "up or down " switch on the hammer.
Sounds like yours is a little newer production.
Dad had one, but my brother inherited it.
    Dang fine shooting gun.

Actually, mine was manufactured before the 1970s and the selector for the early models was on the right side of the receiver. In fact, MY BEST DETERMINATION IS IT WAS BEFORE 1969 AND THE LAW REGUIRING SERIAL NUMBERS on firearms. Rather than a serial number it has a date stamped, yet I can find nowhere to find the symbol chart. Still looking. I have enclosed a picture or two showing the date stamp I just need to find a chart, but it is very difficult.

According to the stamped P inside a circle on the barrel indicates it was manufactured in1963. Makes you say wwoooooooooooo.
