Does anyone have any experiences with a red dot that has a 3/8" dovetail base? Looking for one that will work well on a .22 that has the typical dovetail. Lower the mounting the better.
I had a BSA Huntsman (I think) on my 10/22 for a while. Mount was reversible, 5/8"/Picatinny on one side, 3/8" dovetail on the other. As long as the screws had enough room to turn (they were square bodied, so getting out mounted on a dovetail might be tricky), it worked great. For the $30 I paid, it was pretty good too. Decent accuracy, easy to zero, and never had an issue with it trying to shake loose (of course, I loctite the screws anyway, so no surprise there).
I've used a comp M4(spacer removed) on a Ruger 10/22 with a barracuda style stock. I had to bring the cheek weld up with some flat foam attached to the stock. Otherwise, it's side of the chin weld. Which didn't effect the accuracy. When the red dot meets the eye, fire.
With practice on your anchor points. You won't notice a need to snuggle down tight on the stock. Now if it was somewhat high mounted scope...raise the cheek weld.
On the right setting, yeah. Mine was the RGB variant, so that played a big part in it. Sits nice and low too, center was maybe a half-inch or so above the factory sights IIRC.
