I just started loading .308 again after many years. The only die that I have is a Small base die since I used to load for a Springfield M1a NM but now I don't have that gun anymore but a Savage Tactical in 308. How much would it effect my ammo to use the SB die?

    Thanks

The SB die will just work the brass a little more than usual and shorten its useable life (probably not much though).

The ammo may not shoot as well as it could because it may be a little looser in the chamber.

Personally I would get either a regular sizing die or just a neck sizing die, but the die you have will do the job.

Did your Springfield NM require a small base die? I ask because my buddy had a m24 White Feather that fed just fine using a regular sizing die.

Set the die up to just kiss the neck enough to grip the bullet?

I've only ever neck sized my bolt gun ammo. The brass stays with the rifle for life.

The dies are fine. As mentioned, I'd neck size the cases and keep them seperate for that rifle.

When I do loads like you're wanting- I do them in batches of 100.
Primers, bullets come 100 to a pack. Your batch can use powder from the same new can.
Setting up the press and doing 100 rounds in a sitting is just 'handy'.

I also make sure the brass is all the same.
Same headstamp, all trimmed the at the same time.
All loaded the same number of times, etc.
