not accurate according to an attorney I've spoken to."property" & " premises" are two different things. In the parking lot is okay

Get a better attorney or for more fun go OC a longgun on a military installation, Federal Building, a school zone, and report back.

Texas law has changed a lot recently. Used to be any gun in the auto was a no-no. Carrying from car to range could get you prosecuted. Used to need ammo & gun separate, out of reach of passengers in 'locked' situation.

I've never known it to be illegal to have a long gun in a vehicle, even in plain view, in Texas.

ETA: If it is, or has been, illegal .............. then I've been breaking the law for 50 years, and never been stopped. I need to buy more lotto tickets.

Depends...a private person can legally ship firearms(there are stipulations) thru USPS.
You can ship them thru USPS but make sure the box doesn't have "excessive tape" on it, doesn't have more postage than required, doesn't rattle when shook, and make sure the box won't bust open. These things can mark it as suspicious (even if it's labeled correctly) and where I work gets a call and the package gets placed in holding until a Postal Inspector can make it up there to collect it and blah blah blah
