So....plans change....I was going to use this SA22 as a shooter for me......but then the wife told me, our DIL told her she will miss getting guns for her BD every year since we sold the shop. That's when I decided to give it to her as I previously posted. I was going to have the receiver color case hardened, but it wouldn't be back in time her BD.......so I will blue it.....

Did the engraving this evening her first initial is G so we went with that......will start the bluing process in the next day or so...........and yes, I added the serial number to the receiver since it was only on the barrel..........

Impressive. Going to look more like a Grade II (or VI if you can do gold inlay) when you're done.

These nicks in the trigger frame will be judiciously filed out.

Spent yesterday and today bluing the receiver, barrel and trigger frame. Time consuming and somewhat labor intensive. Just finished....

I used Belgian Blue. It gives a finish reminiscent of old European SXS shotguns and double rifles. Not exactly blue and definitely not black.....The parts are soaking in an oil bath and I will reassemble the rifle tomorrow and post pics.......I am pleased with the finish......

I had to use the full size tank since the barrel wouldn't fit in a half tank with the wood plugs sticking out.....I needed the plugs to handle the barrel for applying the Belgian Blue and carding the barrel between applications. I just left the magazine tube attached to the receiver and used it as a handle to apply the finish and card the receiver.

Basically you prep the parts then degrease them, boil (212 degrees) them in clean water (I used distilled water). Pull the part, apply the finish then put back in the boiling water. After a few minutes remove the part, card off the rust and repeat until you are satisfied with the finish. I did each of the parts 15 times.
