16, 23 and 26 are new and awesome. I've ran 16 in 7mm-08ai and 23 in a 6mm creed. Both were extremely temp stable. Ran pretty much the same test on both by storing 10rds in freezer (16°) for a day and 10rds at heater temp (roughly 108°) temp spread was around 10fps for both powders across a magneto speed v3 chrono. What bout new RE16 suppose be temp insensitive tried it heard good things
I'VE pretty much decided I can reload everything I own, using Unique and either of the 4895 powders (an epiphany which did not visit me until AFTER I became the proud owner of 13 different propellants. Long story). If these were unavailable, I would try to locate Herco and IMR-4064. Each of these is a slower-burning, but otherwise similar propellant to the 1st 2 I named. I'm also sure that there are similar and perfectly satisfactory propellants sold by other manufacturers which would fill each role nicely (AA-2495 and AA#5 come to mind). For some reason, though, I usually end up using Hercules/Alliant propellants in sidearms and IMR/Hodgdon propellants in rifles. I also like Hodgdon Varget for everything I shoot. When I first started reloading I wanted good fairly universal rifle and pistol powders. I picked up H4895 and Unique and still use them both quite a bit.
Good info here.
Temp tested my .308 loads with IMR 4895 over the weekend.
Left a few rounds in the ice chest until ready to shoot, others were in the cab of the truck. Had about 15fps variation from ice water temp to 75 degrees or so IIRC.
Standard deviation for was much lower with the cold ammo, but it was a small sample size.
If you remember we did the same with my 6.5 Creedmoor rounds loaded with H4350. No velocity or SD change at all. I was impressed with it.
Either? I was under the impression that we might encounter at least 4 4895s - H4895, IMR4895, AA2495, and bulk/surplus/old 4895 (no prefix)....either of the 4895 powders...
Don't forget pistols. I have several pistols that just love H4895....rifle...the 4895s work...
Yep, just didn't remember the numbers.
Shoot mine to me if you have a chance and the info is still there.
The only two rifle powders designated 4895 with which I'M familiar are IMR-4895 and H4895. The AA2495 may be some equivalent of IMR-4895 or H4895, but since it is designated AA2495, and NOT AA4895, I intentionally omitted it from the conversation. I don't think I have ever seen, nor even know anyone who has used "bulk/surplus/old 4895 (no prefix)". Having no experience with the latter 2 powders you mention, I am hesitant to make any firm judgement as to whether they are as versatile as the TWO 4895s with which I AM more than passingly familiar.Either? I was under the impression that we might encounter at least 4 4895s - H4895, IMR4895, AA2495, and bulk/surplus/old 4895 (no prefix).
I don't mind being quoted, but I would appreciate being quoted without substantial alteration to the original sentence and in entirety, thus:Kosh75287 said: ↑ ...rifle...the 4895s work...
No rifle I shoot is chambered in a terribly over-bore caliber, so the 4895s work splendidly in all of them.
Thirdgenshooting just got some in stock recently. If only I could find some RL-16.
Uh, no. Not a chance....I would appreciate being quoted ... in entirety, ...
In future, please do not quote me at all.
Even with the "please" that is rude.
