Phelan is somehow under the impression that he's going to remain speaker - when he only survived a primary challenge by thousands of crossover Democrat votes - and reality is any Republican that votes for him to be in any position that lacks 'bitch' in the title will be subject to a primary challenge themselves.
Between impeaching AG Paxton and blocking School Choice, he's shown his ass, and his district will suffer severe consequences for sending him back to Austin - every budget item needs to be zeroed out for his term.

Andy Hopper hinted that there should be enough new conservatives elected in November to kick him to the curb.

We got Lynn Stucky UNelected in Wise/Denton County district 64 so there might be hope.

Cook isn't much of an improvement. This is the best they can do?

First elected in 2020, Cook voted for Phelan in both 2021 and 2023. He also voted for the impeachment of Attorney General Ken Paxton. The secretive process employed in the Paxton impeachment was a flashpoint for many of the members.

I, personally, wanted Paxton to be removed - based on the 'evidence' he was impeached on. I, much like a lot of Representatives, had no idea the 'evidence' was complete fabrications and baseless accusations - Phelan knew - so I wouldn't hold voting for impeachment against him too much.
The real problem is Texans for Lawsuit Reform, a PAC that went off the rails years ago and targeted not only Paxton but Sid Miller and other good politicians and raises millions of dollars annually through deception.
ETA: I think this was previously posted on TGT, it's lengthy but worth the watch:
