    Probably didn’t actually take him up. The temps alone would be terrible.
    Yea very true.

    The B-17 was one of the first (I believe it was THE first) plane designed to fly at extreme altitudes IE:30K and up. The engines were supercharged and those were fed by turbochargers to accomplish this. Hence the 02 masks and they had extreme cold suits.

    Up until he died my dad remained pissed off that his bomber suit was taken away & the coat slashed thru the artwork on the back. The destruction of Bomber Nose Art pissed me off once I got older.
