    As with everything, it boils down to how people use it. Same with firearms.
    2009. I was on a train from Yokosuka to Tokyo. All the doors were open from one car to the next. As I usually did, I was looking out the windows at the sights of Japan. At one point I could see down through all the cars, and all the people I could see were hunched over staring at their phones. I thought "that's pathetic, I'm glad it's not that way in America."

    I had my phone turned off before I went to Japan, it took me 6 months after I got back to decide to turn it back on. Now I'm reminded about that day on the train to Tokyo when I enter my classroom at the start of class.
