    That happens when the "emergency stop" is activated. Hub locks, blades don't want to stop, torque topples the tower.

    I am honestly curious. What type of situation would occur where an emergency stop resulting in this is better than the alternative?

    That’s a good question. Because I’m 99% sure there was no weather. Like it was a malfunction. I thought the protocol in weather was to rotate the blades so they no longer catch the wind.

    Blade feathering malfunction. Rapid overspeed, imminent catastrophic failure. This can control fall and debris field direction.
    These things throw shit for miles when they self destruct.
    Or, super slow rotation with workers in the nacell. If a guy gets caught in a shaft or gear, there's a button up there too. This scenario is not destructive to equipment, normally.
