The one thing to understand living here.

This is not a Texas mutant mosquito. Stop calling them Texas mosquitos.

You'll look like an absolute vagina running from one. Big vagina at that. It's nothing but a Damn crane fly......that seems to have fangs....to hear from folks new to Texas. It's like being scared of a ladybug.

Testicule fortitude people. It's freaking harmless.

Well, I'll be switched!!! I was told a few years back(as a new arrival) that those critters were 'mosquito eaters' and should be left alone since they help eliminate 'normal' mosquitoes.

The rumor-monger is a Texas native who has lived here 40+ years...Dang!

We called them mosquito hawks growing up. They spawn around this time every year. I have one chilling out on my bathroom wall. Two dive bombed the TV last night.

Saturday, I saw one chase a guy out of a chair. Lol

    From the link above:
"The larval stage has chewing mouth parts and feed primarily on decomposing organic matter. Crane fly adults only live for a couple of days and do not usually feed."

That's just so sad. I live to eat.

Mosquito hawks are easy to point out. I assumed those were everywhere.

    Also, this is relevant:

Even so, our actual mosquitoes are freakin' huge.

Does everything have to be bigger in Texas?

I take it you haven't witnessed the grasshopper plaques that have swept our plains? They are the size of birds compared to the pussy Northern types.

My dog is committed to their eradication...

I'm wondering if that's what set off the motion sensor in our house the other day. I drove like a madman to get home and found the deputy sheriff just finishing his walk around our house. Our big dog was barking because a stranger was in the backyard, but all was well inside the house.

If you live in San Antonio, you know how bad 1604 is between Culebra and Bandera. I hate driving on that road.
