Heck I'm looking more for the opposite, myself. A more open chunk of land with more freedom to do things beyond stand and shoot at paper.

    Let's see -

    • They have a live fire simulator room.
    • They allow rapid fire as long as you're hitting well.
    • They allow draw from the holster as long as you're "certified" by the staff.
I made a long drive to Athena to check them out just because I wanted to see how they put their ideas into practice. This place is just as interesting, so I'll have to check it out, too.

Read it's same owner as athena, lol
Confirmed this with my brother. He is a sales rep in the outdoor industry and has connections all over Houston.

Apparently it is the former owners of Athena, as they sold it and moved on to this.

Sounds odd to me. Seems like Athena would have been the better location.

    But, whatever pulls your trigger.

I stopped in this place on my way back from ASC.

It's nice and new, definitely has the same vibe as Athena. Not much parking out front though.

The range is done well with good air-flow and the same digital readout conveyor system as Athena. Only 15 yards and only eight lanes. They said they can take up to .308 rifles with full-auto and rapid fire is ok as well.

They have five simulator rooms for rent which were kind of interesting. The guy showing me around said they were working on getting a "live fire simulator range" up and running in the next month or so.

Guess that's my quick review of the place.

What happened to Athena? Did they shut down?

    The simulators sound intriguing...

Too bad it's so far away.

    No, Athena is still open.

The story (as I understand it) is Boyert was part of the Athena group but had a disagreement with how things were being run so he pulled out and built his own range. (Mostly likely not completely accurate but you get the idea.)

Athena keeps on humming. I shoot there twice a week. I haven't gotten to Boyert yet, though.

Allen, do the lanes at Boyert look wide enough to handle a shooter in a wheelchair?

I'm going to have to say probably/maybe. I think they were about three feet wide but I can't say for certain. I bet if you call them they would be able to verify the bay width for you.

It's a new facility that should pay at least a passing regard to ADA compliance. If they didn't put in at least one lane wide enough to accommodate someone in a wheelchair, they need to sue their designer.
