Ah, but most of the greatest songs were either written by a different songwriter than the singer who had a hit with it, or are even cover songs. Much of it is just the way the performer makes it his.

Arlo Guthrie was a kinda lousy singer, but his songs, sung by him, just hit the feels for me.
