    From the AmmoLand blog;

    In 2023, Constitutional Carry (permitless) was restored to 26 states. Vermont always had Constitutional Carry. Those states make up 65% of the land area of the United States of America. According to John Lott, those 27 states contain 44% of the population of the United States. When will a majority of the people in the United States enjoy permitless carry, as well as a majority of the states?

    But all of this permitless carry merely creates multitudes of Federal Felons because of the GFSZA of 1990 and its 1,000 yard buffer zone! It’s bad enough that the GFSZA applies to those with carry licenses that are out of state. It needs to be changed!

    The Supreme Court of the United States subsequently held that the Act was an unconstitutional exercise of Congressional authority under the Commerce Clause of the United States Constitution in United States v. Lopez, 514 U.S. 549 (1995). This was the first time in over half a century that the Supreme Court limited Congressional authority to legislate under the Commerce Clause.

    There have been a number of other court rulings since then so the legal eyes on the this forum will have to weigh in what's in effect now.

    The Palmetto State will have to wait to 2024 for permitless carry.

    The South Carolina 2023 legislative session has informally adjourned without a sine-die resolution and has no plans to return this calendar year. Despite the adjournment, both NRA-backed Constitutional Carry bills, S. 109 and H. 3594, are still alive and will be pending on the Senate floor when the legislature returns in January 2024.

    After nearly six full days of debate, South Carolina’s Senate approved a Constitutional Carry bill on Thursday by a vote of 28-15, removing the last major hurdle for the state to become the 28th in the nation to recognize the right to bear arms without the need for a government-issued permission slip.
