Turk elections are complicated. Kemalists are secular. And not Islamists. Erdogan (not pronounced as English spelling) supports ISIS and radical Islamists. Turkey would never been member of NATO if Erdoo was in control after WWII. Kemalists made nation modern and Western oriented. Kemal was brilliant officer, but brutal. Probably necessary in Turkish culture, then and now.

Have followed that region for 10+ years. Long story. A lot of what happens there is not in the news media outside of local news sources. Some of which are excellent. Many pockets of tribalism, some are very good people. Others are insane Islamists like Hamas, Hezbollah and Turkey's smaller Islamist Militias. Like Sultan Murat and Turkmen.

Erdogan actually believes he will be the next Sultan of what was once the Ottoman Empire. He threatens Israel and even other NATO members like Greece.

Bad things happen when you threaten Israel. We may be nearing one of those points again. We have some in our Fed Gov that have not learned that lesson yet. Blinken, Biden and Nodda.
