I joined TGT for many reasons, but a significant one was that I could list Rifles, shotguns, and pistols for sale without needing an FFL. I am a little confused about mailing a firearm to whoever may purchase it. A TGT member told me that I could mail (USPS) a rifle or long gun to someone who lives in Texas and that neither the seller nor the buyer is required to have an FFL. I have several rifles listed on TGT now and have indicated in my classified information that they are offered as FTF; however, if it is legal to do so, I would mail the guns if requested! Thanks for your advise, comments, etc.

    In-State transfers are fine.

Long guns via USPS are OK. Registered mail only. Nothing on the package that indicates content.

Hand guns are verboten via USPS; you'll need a private carrier.

Private carriers, like FedEx and UPS may choose not to deliver if you or the recipient aren't licensees. I've had good and bad experiences over the years being grilled and arguing over package contents. There have been some wonderful people and some wonderfully ignorant people behind the counters. There are other courier services you can search out as well.

Out of state transfers require sending to a FFL.

"A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by carrier to a resident of his or her own state or to a licensee in any state. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm. [18 U. S. C. 922(a)( 2)( A) and 922( e), 27 CFR 178.31]"

    Intrastate has no FFL requirement.

No requirement for registered mail. You must use tracking though.
    1. Be mailed using a class of mail, product, or Extra Service that provides tracking and signature capture at delivery."

Thanks! Question: If USPS registered, do I indicate on the mailing form that it is a rifle? Any other class of mailing like Priority, USPS ground?
