An opinion piece on The Hill regarding two lessons learned from Venezuela:
1. In 2006, former Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez ran on an openly socialist platform, “won” and immediately started a government takeover of every private industry in the country, directly leading to what they have there today.
2. The Venezuelan government’s 2012 decision to force citizens to turn in their firearms under the guise of combating crime, but with the ultimate aim to disarm all civilians. Now their government is literally running over protestors in the streets.
An interesting read. Hopefully will resonate in Washington.
