The first of my lines into Texas got here in 1829, seven years before the declaration of the Republic of Texas. But I spent a decade in SoCal before finally regaining my senses and getting back here. No place is perfect, but Texas is definitely closer to Heaven than California.

On top of everything else, if it goes through it looks like you'll be getting out in time to avoid the proposed mileage tax, where every vehicle will be tracked and owners will pay 4 cents for every mile driven. That's in a state that already has the highest income tax, gas tax, and car tax. Nationally, average annual private car mileage is right at about 14,000 miles per year. So not only would Big Brother Bear be tracking your every move, you'd be paying about $560 each year for the privilege. :-|
