Yeah, I didnt like that adendum at first, but:
1) I am pro police as shown in number postings here.
2) He could be trying to boost his street cred.
3) The rest of what he said was spot on.
4) If this country recedes further towards tyrany, it will be the police who we will need to worry about.
5) In Nazi Germany, many people were rounded up by the "normal" police, not the military, Gestapo, etc.
6) One could argue people needed protection from LAPD's Rampart Division several years back.

So I wish he hadn't said it, but its not entirely untrue.

I believe that in Ice-T's vernacular the term 'Police' is a broad term used to indicate any group of people in government service with authority to free one of his or her freedom/belongings/life. AKA 'The Man'. I don't think he means just the men in blue.

He grew up in LA with one of the most corrupt police forces in the country and experienced first-hand a lot of abuse by the police. Not saying it's right, just saying I understand where he was coming from. Things are a little different now for him and LAPD.

LAPD and Oakland PD both have pretty bad records on how they treat people in black neighborhoods.

Funny you mention that, he recorded a song titled Freedom of Speech on the same album as Cop Killer. It's a rip-off of Foxey Lady but I still like it.
