    I doubt if the shooter ever knew.
    I've found brass like that after a few dozen rounds. I couldn't tell one from the other.
    Brass has one job.
    Hold the primer, the powder and the bullet.
    It doesn't control the energy of any part of firing a gun. The bolt and chamber do that.

    I bet there was an unusual release of gas at the very least. Should have been quite noticeable.


    I notice if the action doesn't chamber right.
