    Occupied Texas
Some years back, I signed in as a visitor in a factory in California. They did a lot of DOD stuff, so every visitor had to sign in with full name, address, etc. They told me that they got some grief from the Pentagon boys because when they reviewed their visitor logs, most of the folks from Texas filled in "Texas" in the spot for "Country".

And you wouldn't believe how happy they are when you actually tell them you are from Texas. I was talking to some folks in the "beverage" car on an overnight train from Switzerland to France, they asked where I was from due to my accent, I told them Texas, they then proceeded to buy me drinks for the rest of our conversation.

Ain't that the truth. My passport lists Texas as my birthplace, of course, and I've had hoteliers in Europe hold my passport in their hands and simply say, "Texas....Texas..." repeatedly, serious as a heart attack. Next thing they usually ask is "Do you own a horse?" or the just say, "John Wayne."
