Typical news article. Wild hogs on the loose, lock yourself inside and call 911. They'll spend your tax money to tranquilize them and then kill them later.

Horse crap, I'd shoot them if it could be done safely. If not it might be time for a spear.

I live off bonds ranch road and 287 and there's a large area behind our housing development that is basically oil field. I throw on my Kelty pack and do conditioning hikes back there usually around 3 miles or so and usually see a group of 8 or so of them back there most nights.

Just weird. I have 100 acres in the area between Abilene and Sweetwater. No hogs, no deer. It just don't make much sense.

Oh they are in the area, no doubt. Just not my particular area.
North, south, west. Hogs and deer aplenty. Damn flatland!

Start spreading corn and they'll come.

One thing that's less expensive than spreading corn all the time is to put corn in a 3-liter with some water. When it rots and turns to mash the hogs can smell it from far off and love it. We used to hang a bottle of it in our hog traps and sprinkle corn on the ground, worked great.

    Highly scientific

I just left the top open (no cap) and tied string around the neck of the bottle. The mixture wasn't precise. I just filled 'em up about half way with corn, then put water up to the top of the corn.

Trust me, when it's "ready" you will smell it. Hogs like some stinky crap.

Here's a Google-Fu pic (not mine). Search "hogs corn mash" and you can ind all kinds of recipes.
