    It wouldn't be as funny if not for the sheer hubris of Stockton Rush and his assertions that the "rules" (those being known properties of carbon fiber and the unavoidable physics of water pressure in the deep ocean) didn't apply to him.
    US navy is testing carbon fiber hulls and has been for some time. It’s not the carbon fiber that caused the problem. It was his lack of knowledge regarding its use.

    So...yeah. The known properties of carbon fiber. He was not using it properly to build a working pressure hull for that depth, he was doing his own thing and insisting it would be fine because he's a maverick.

    Sorry, I thought you were saying CF shouldn’t be used at all.

    Funny enough, I watched a recent video going over what’s been released since the accident and the sensor data actually showed warning signs long before the fatal dive, including changes to the how the hull was reacting under pressure. But they were ignored.
