    Common back in my day and a friend did that to his Monte Carlo. We skipped 1st period one day and found ourselves on a muddy road. He thought we'd get stuck so he decided to back up though he couldn't see anything out the rearview mirror. So he opened that long driver's side door and gunned it. He had to skip the remainder of the day due to covering himself with mud. His transmission didn't last 6 months but the car sure was nice taking corners since it didn't lean.
