More like the 70's. My mom was the head cook in the middle school cafeteria. She would buy boxes of the frozen pizza squares from the distributor and keep them in the freezer at home.

Back in elementary school, I'd just ride my bike home for lunch since it was 2 blocks away. I guess you can't do that anymore.

These days most high schools don't even let the kids leave for lunch. No way an elementary would.

I often went home for lunch in elementary school. It was four houses from the school. We had punch card meal ticketsand the square cafeteria pizza was great.

Even when I was in elementary school that wasn't an option - the kids went into the lunchroom as a class and all sat down with no other option. I had several friends who lived within walking distance, none of them got to go home.

We were allowed ot leave for lunch, but I lived too far away for that. It didn't matter though. My Mom gave me lunch money every week and I pocketed it.
I never was one for lunch and still am not.

From what I recall seeing on others lunch trays at school, I really was not missing much.
